Personal Biography:
My name is Peter Benavidez. I am the Chief Executive Officer for Blindness Support Services, Inc., (BSS), a private non-profit organization whose mission is promoting independence for individuals blind/visually impaired. As CEO, I b elieve that part of my responsibility is to continue to develop strong leadership abilities in myself and in others. I graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a BA in Sociology and possess over nineteen years of work experience in the public and private sector. As a person who lives with a visual impairment, I have a working knowledge of blindness, blind persons and a philosophy of promoting independence. In addition, I have demonstrated skills in strategic planning, supervision, grant proposal writing, the ability to create and maintain an agency's operating budget, public speaking, good public relations and have fluent bi-lingual capabilities. Since technology is critical to persons blind and visually impaired in many aspects of our lives, I recognize the importance of my involvement in the Zero Divide Fellowship and hope that I can contribute to its development.
Goals:
My primary goal is to ensure that the technological needs of persons with visual impairments are addressed.
